Il giorno di apertura dell’edizione inaugurale del Quiksilver Pro New York si è svolto in belle onde di un metro grazie all’uragano Katia che ha permesso di completare il round 1 a Long Beach, Long Island, New York.
Il Quiksilver Pro New York non è solo il sesto evento su 11 dell’ ASP World Title Series, è soprattutto il primo contest di sempre sulla East Coast statunitense ed ha il montepremi più alto nella storia del surf, 1.000.000 di dollari americani.
Josh Kerr ha dominato la giornata con no-grab air-reverses mostruosi e ha vinto contro Adriano de Souza e Kai Otton, avanzando direttamente al round 3. Kelly Slater era in piena forma e ha vinto anche lui il primo round. Dane Reynolds, che non ha ancora preso parte a nessun evento della stagione, era in programma nel Quiksilver Pro New York ma si è ritirato a causa di un infortunio durante un surf trip in Giappone. /span>
