Owen Wright batte Kelly Slater e vince il Quiksilver Pro New York

Owen Wright ha vinto l’edizione inaugurale del Quiksilver Pro New York, battendo Kelly Slater e portandosi a casa l’altissimo montepremi di US $300,000 in onde di un metro-un metro e mezzo a Long Beach, New York.
Dice Wright: “Ho sempre desiderato arrivare in finale con Kelly (Slater) e la settimana scorsa a Teahupo’o è stato bellissimo. Penso che Kelly sia già pronto per la rivincita. Grazie Long Beach, che bello è? Guardate che onde! Grazie Quiksilver, si sono presi cura di noi l’intera settimana e non ci hanno fatto mancare niente, e grazie per i $300,000.Grazie al mio coach Dean Davies, abbiamo lavorato molto per questa vittoria e significa molto per noi. Grazie ai miei amici e alla mia famiglia a casa. Ho ricevuto molti messaggi da loro e da mio papà, avrei voluto fosse qui, ma sarà per un’altra volta. I wish he was here, but another day. E grazie alla folla, ho molto apprezzato il supporto.”
Con questa vittoria Owen sale al secondo posto nella classifica ASP per il titolo mondiale e prende parte attivamente alla corsa per il titolo.
Slater era in ottima forma per il giorno finale del Quiksilver Pro New York e ha sconfitto Josh Kerr e Taj Burrow, ma non è riuscito a fare meglio di Wright nella finale.
