Kelly vince il Rip Curl Pro Portugal

Un’altra vittoria, per l’esattezza la 44esima per quanto riguarda l’ASP world tour, per il nove volte campione del mondo e attuale numero uno in classifica Kelly Slater.
Ha battuto Jordy Smeath, 22, a Supertubos, Portogallo. Ma la battaglia è stata tutt’altro che semplice e fino all’ultimo minuto era molto difficile predire chi avrebbe vinto.
“E’ stata una finale che si è svolta abbastanza lentamente e nessuno dei due stava prendendo l’onda decisiva,” dice Slater. “Facevo del mio meglio ma non si riusciva ad avere un’onda importante. [..] Jordy ha tutto il talento del mondo ed è capace di far punti in ogni condizione. La gara non è finita finchè non è suonata la campana.”
Mick Fanning (AUS), 29, il campione in carica e attualmente terzo in classifica, è uscito di gara al terzo round e, con la vittoria di Slater, è anche fuori dalla corsa per il titolo. Quindi ora la lotta è tra Slater e Smith, che lotteranno per il titolo al Rip Curl Pro Search a Puerto Rico, dal 30 ottobre al 10 novembre 2010.
