The movie is a visually expressive documentation of different mountain bike communities combined with meaningful storytelling from athletes all over the globe.

Right on time with the start of the 2012 bike season, the world’s “who’s who” of mountain biking got together at last weekend’s Sea Otter Classic for the world premiere of the action sports documentary “STRENGTH IN NUMBERS”, produced by Anthill Films in co-production with Red Bull Media House.

The highly anticipated premiere welcomed 1,000 bike enthusiasts to celebrate with the film’s cast and crew including Brandon Semenuk, Anthony Messere, René Wildhaber, Cam McCaul, Andrew Shandro, Thomas Vanderham, Wade Simmons, Matt Hunter, Graham Agassiz, Adam Billinghurst, Steve Smith, Aaron Gwin, Ryan Howard, Greg Watts, Alex Reveles, and Tyler McCaul.

For most of the riders this was their first time seeing the entire film. Brandon Semenuk, defending FMB World Tour Champion, had this to say after seeing the film: “As a rider the film is really cool. It shows all these communities that got people into riding, whether these people are professionals now or just avid riders. I think everyone who rides has been influenced by a riding community one way or another, it’s just the simple truth.”

No matter what biking discipline you are into, “STRENGTH IN NUMBERS” is a rally call to connect all mountain bikers, regardless of location or language or discipline. After almost two straight years of work, all the positive comments we have gotten here have made it all worthwhile”, say the Anthill Crew. Their mission was to capture the full diversity of the sport – from the World Cup Circuit to back yard dirt jumps; from the largest bike park in the world in Whistler to remote high-alpine trails in Nepal; from the endless freeride lines in Utah to stunts built in the rain forests of British Columbia. And from the initial reviews, it sounds like it this mission was accomplished. “The Anthill crew have made cine magic once again. In a world of three minute web edit it’s refreshing to see a long form, painstakingly shaped movie about the personalities and the worldwide reach of two wheels on dirt. Beautifully crafted,” says Bike Mag’s Morgan Meredith after he watched the movie for the first time.

With the world premiere over, screenings are now taking place all over the world. Audiences will be able to experience “STRENGTH IN NUMBERS” on the big screen from major cities like Vancouver, London and Dubai to small mountain bike communities like Williams Lake, Bellingham and Bozeman. A DRAMATIC EXPLORATION OF DIVERSE MOUNTAIN BIKE COMMUNITIES ALL OVER THE WORLD.

Strength in Numbers is an action sports film that explores mountain bike culture through the experiences of the world’s best riders. Anthill Films, in co-production with Red Bull Media House, have created a film, which will change the way the world sees mountain biking, both on and off the screen. Strength in Numbers combines progressive action and beautiful cinematography with compelling stories to show how the many different sides of mountain biking are all connected. The filmmakers, who brought you ‘The Collective’, ‘Roam’, ‘Seasons’ and ‘Follow Me’, traveled the globe to find communities that represented the many sides of the sport, with film shoots in British Columbia, Nepal, Scotland, Austria, Switzerland, California, Utah and the Whistler Mountain Bike Park. For the crew and riders, Strength in Numbers represents a way to give back and progress the sport.

The movie features a diverse selection of riders with some of the biggest names in the sport, including: Andrew Shandro, Brandon Semenuk, Cam McCaul, Gee Atherton, Graham Agassiz, Matt Hunter, Rene Wildhaber, Thomas Vanderham and Wade Simmons. The cast consists of a mix of established pros, up and comers and local riders, with Anthony Messere, Adam Billinghurst, Rachel Atherton, Ryan Howard and Steve Smith also appearing in the film. “It’s been a long time coming and I can’t wait to see what the Anthill boys have put together”, says world cup downhill champion Gee Atherton. “For me, as a rider, it’s exciting to be part of something like this – it’s a chance to help progress and grow our sport.”

The world premiere of the film will be on April 20, 2012 in Monterey, CA, at the Sea Otter Bike festival followed by cinematic events all over the world. On May 24, Strength in Numbers will be available for all to experience with the free online premiere on redbull.com/bike and will be released afterwards on DVD+BluRay and iTunes worldwide. Ultimately, the film’s mission is to inspire and show how we are all part of a global community who love to ride. To do this, a basic version of the entire film will be streamed online for free in autumn 2012.

After the World Cup Round 6 in La Bresse, France, the name of the new DH World Champion is finally clear. And it’s Aaron Gwin who secured his title with a third place behind Greg Minnaar (Santa Cruz Syndicate) and Gee Atherthon. Minnaar had qualified  fifth but was on fire for his final run. He almost flew thorugh the track and crossed the line nearly 3.5 seconds faster than Barel, setting the first sub-2:10 time of the day.  Neither Gee Atherton (Commencal) nor Canada’s Steve Smith (Devinci),  were able to produce the run necessary to take the Hot Seat, leaving World Cup leader Gwin to try to dislodge Minnaar.

It was clear from the start that Gwin wasn’t in his best shape and he lost time in several splits. But it was good enough for a third place that assured him the World Cup title, with an insurmountable lead of 310 points over Minnaar. Gee Atherton remains third, a further 151 points back

Tracy Moseley (Trek World Racing) solidify her lead in the women’s standings with her fourth win of the year. She stepped up her game for the final, and was fastest through every section of the course, finishing nearly five seconds ahead of her French rival, Floriane Pugin, to extend her lead in the overall competition to 150 points, with Atherton third, a further 235 points behind.
