Next stop for Cheryl in the Open Air series is Finland – where she gets some help with Eero Ettala in finding the best rail spots in Helsinki. However this trip is cut short when Cheryl gets a call from Terje Haakonsen who wants her to compete in the Arctic Challenge in Oslo.

Check out Episode 3 – very cold, very snowy and some very serious action from Northern Europe!

Cheryl was followed for six months doing what makes her the most driven, motivated, rewarded – filming. Most of the winter was spent traveling around Europe and the US in their two person crew, Cheryl and her filmer John Roderick, allowing Cheryl the freedom to push herself in whatever way she wanted. The results will unfold over six short films, released monthly from September 1st 2011.

In the first episode Cheryl starts in the town where she grew up in Holland and tells us how she got into snowboarding in a country with no mountains and little snow. We then follow her to Colorado as she gets back on the snow and ready for an epic winter ahead. In episode 2 Cheryl Maas goes on her first backcountry trip of the season to Silverton, Colorado. Teamed with Kimmy Fasani and Hana Beaman the girls all push themselves and each other to new limits, landing tricks that have never been done before!

And this episode 3 (released today!) Cheryl teams up with Eero Ettala in Helsinki and then heads to The Arctic Challenge on Terke Haakonsens request!

Today we’re going freakin big. A regular on Transworld colums on the last decade, one of the toughest girl on the scene and also one of the most loved. The one that blows our mind in the beginning on the legendary Full Metal Edges, and dammit, was just the beginning: three silver medals at the Winter X Games, 1st place at 2009 Ride Shakedown, 1st Place 2010 GP Expression Session, and a sick part in 2010 Standard Film “The Storming” too! The one that could hang out the whole day riding Mammoth and then go partying all night long. Yes, you can guess now. Hands down – entering HANA BEAMAN!

You’re one of the girl that has given more to snowboarding over the last decade: in my opinion it’s thanks to riders like you, Tara, and a few others that girls started hitting parks and rails seriously. You brought it to a new level. But how did you feel in the beginning? What was that lead you into snowboarding at first?

When I first started it was because of my mom. She got into it first then got me started a few months later, I was 6 when i put on my first board. I didn’t start really getting into the snowboard culture and scene till I was about 15. Then I started to watch the videos and really get into it. When i would ride I would just want to emulate the pros I would see in the videos. I didnt really know what i was doing but had a good foundation and it was really fun to try tricks n stuff.

You rode Mammoth, SLC, Big Bear, well, the most valuable spots on earth for sure. But if You had to chose your favorite spot, what would it be?

I really enjoy every place i get to visit, each offers something special. But my favorite place would have to be Jackson Hole. It’s just such a fun big mtn, a lot of amazing terrain in bounds and I always have a great time there. Plus the friends there are always rad to ride with.

How’s been growing up riding with names such Travis Rice, Danny Kaas, and so on? Do you ever feel intimidating by guys or you just drop in and upped them eheh?

Riding with the guys is awesome most of the time. it’s fun to have them push you and give advice on things, They taught me a ton of stuff and showed me that I could do things that i didn’t really think i could. But it can definitely be intimidating hitting some of the stuff they hit. But, i think in the end it just made me stronger and made me appreciate the effort and time it takes to get good shots.

You got some sick skills in any kind of terrain, that’s for sure – I saw you riding huge on street rails, parks, pipe, and lately some powder too. If you had to pick your best trick in any terrain, which ones would they be?

I think my favorite terrain now is powder… whether it’s jumps, cliffs or just making turns down a sick face. i enjoy the casualness of being in the backcountry and being able to go about things at your own pace. I feel like it allows for a bit more creativity also.

What are Hana’s plans for next years? Well, if you have any !

This season I’ll be filming and putting out webisodes every other week on snowboardermag.com as well as competing in X-Games. The season is going to be mainly focused on filming though, and I hope to put together a nice video part at the end of the year.

3 in a row. What’s in your IPod now, which book are you reading and what’s the last video you watched?

Oh man, I have such a random collection of music… from madonna to johnny cash, with some peaches, modern lovers, and techno in there somewhere. The book I’m reading is Michael Crichton’s new one, called Pirate’s Latitude. it’s ok… and the last video i watched was ‘Marcel the shell’ on youtube.

Have you ever imagined your life without snowboarding? Before landing in the dazzling world of shred business, who was Hana Beaman ?

Yeah, for sure. I wanted to be a marine biologist, or get into some sort of business. I have always loved being outside, so I’m sure i would have figured out something that i would be able to be outdoors. I feel very fortunate that I have been able to do this for a living, and i hope my next career is as enjoyable!

Make us feel so damn jealous: Your best moment ever!

Right now i would say that my best moment would be this last spring during our trip to AK. It was the first time really riding in AK when i did this line called Film flutes and after I got to the bottom it was just incredible. I’ve never felt that feeling before and I will definitely be going back for more! Alaska is a horse of a different color.

Well Hana. Last line is yours. Add whatever you want!

Huge thanks to everyone who has helped me to live this dream. It has been such an amazing journey and I’m so very grateful to have had this opportunity. Who could have imagined…

Thanks Carlo!

Thank You Hana! Shred on mate!!!
