A damn fine bmx rider, a nice person to talk with, we had the luck to share a few question with Federico Saoner. Check out!

Hi Fede! Welcome on Candiesmagazine.com! Introduce yourself, how old are you, where are you from and how long have you been riding?

Hi, I’m Federico, I’m 18 and I come from Milan. I’ve been riding for three years.

Sponsors and hook-ups?

My sponsors are Frontocean and Osiris.

How did you become a bmxer? Can you recall the moment when you realized it was something more than just a hobby?

3 years ago my dad took me on a biking day in Milan, where I met a few riders. And it all began. Now bmxing is way more than a hobby for me, it’s my way of life. I couldn’t live more than 3 days without riding ahah

What does bmx mean to you?

Bmx means everything to me. Without it I wouldn’t know what to do. I guess.

Where do you usually ride? Do you have any favourite spot (not necessarily near home)?

I usually ride Lambro or some of Milan’s street spots with my crew. I like Centale because there are tons of walls perfect for combos and so on.

You’re the hero of the last Enel TV spot. I’m curious. How did it happen that such a big company, so far from the action sports, chose a bmxer for its spot, and how did they come to choose you? Was it a good experience?

A friend of mine told me there was a casting in Milan to find a good bmxer. I showed up and a week later they called to tell me that I had been chosen for the spot. It was a great experience and it doesn’t happen everyday to be the protagonist of a spot!! I was very happy to do that.

What did it happen to your missing tooth?

Unluckily I had a slam in June 2011. It wasn’t my fault, another rider hit me while I was dropping! It took me a month to recover, and soon I’ll have a new tooth.

Are you working on any video projects?

Yes I’m starting to work on my new edit and maybe I’ll shoot it in Barcelona. Soon we’ll also shoot a clip with my crew, the M.B. from Milan.

What do you think about the bmxing scene in Italy? Is it growing or not?

The Italian scene is growing very slowly. It’s better than the past, but we’re still far from the other countries.

What are you going to do this summer? Contests, trips, holidays?

I’m in a tour through all the pool parties in Italy until September. Then I’ll go to Barcelona for a few months! :D

Pictures and clips don’t show how hard it is to be noticed in the competitive world of the freestyle sports. Did bmx lead you to give up anything in your life?

Yes I made a lot of sacrifices. 2 years ago I left school to focus almost entirely to bmx. The level is really high now but with commitment you can do everything!

How do you spend your days when not riding?

Sometimes I swim, or I go out with my friends…

Where do you take inspiration for a riding day?

I watch some videos, I relax and then I’ve fun with the others in street!

Thanks a lot for your time Fede! You can add whatever you want:

Thank you for the itw! Have fun..!!
