Les 2 Alpes – Park ChroniclesJuly 27th, 2011 by admin received Comments Off Tweet
Snowboarding in middle July may sound a bit weird if you’re not confident with Summer resorts.
But once you step for the first time on a glacier and you get confident with the altitude and the low oxigen atmosphere, you’ll discover that “It’s always winter somewhere”.
My choice for a shred break during the hot Italian summer has been Les 2 Alpes for many years now. The resort is more or less 70 km from Grenoble, in the French Isère département. The village sits at 1650m (5,413 ft.) and lifts run to the top of the glaciers at 3600m (11,811 ft.)
Being the largest skiable glacier in Europe and with something like 16 years of experience in snowparks construction, the resort offers the very best freestyle experience, in some cases even better than your winter home resort.
The park is just huge – all the structures are almost uncountable- but just to name a few:
- Beginner and pro pipe
- S,M,L,XL! Kickers in a row
- Any kind of jib feature: rails, kink, boxes, wallrides, C box, S rails, mailbox, of any kind of dimensions and progression – so fitted for everyone, from the very beginners to the pro rail slayers
- Big air inflated bag
- Dedicated park lift
The level of riding is pretty sick, lot of teams spend summer here to train or film. Skiers and snowboarders are almost 50/50, coming worldwide. Being the friendliest environment ever, will be super easy for you to meet new people and find friends to ride with and progress your style. In fact it’s impossible to spend your time here without making a lot of new friends.
Even the village is fully equipped: markets, a skatepark, a lot of events during the week, partys, snow\skate shops, a lake to swim a bit, cinema, and so on. Accomodation is super easy, since the resort is crowded with hotels, b&b, spare rooms, chalets and a large number of Snowboard\Ski Camps that will provide you accomodation and training on the slopes. Just search a bit on the web to find plenty of it, depending on your nationality. Daily lift ticket is 34 € (7 am – 01 pm)
Another good things is that you can spend all your afternoon doing sports – skateboard, but also golf, swimming, climbing (sick), walkin in the trees, tennis, and a lot more. A special chapter is downhill. There’s plenty of trails all around the area, and of course you can take the gondola to the glaciers and make your ride down to the village with your bike. Another good bike trail is the one that lead to Venosc. Gondola ticket is the same you used for skiing, and you can rent a bike almost in any shop.
Yep, this season’s one has been my 7th or 8th time in Les 2 Alpes so I guess I’m pretty partial, but really it’s such a cool place.
Thanks to: Chiara, Giulio and Gian from Rocker Chalet for the nice welcome and accomodation, thanks to Jacopo, Filippo, Giovannino, Wedro, Emo and friends for the sick riding and the friendly being. I appreciated so much!
