Cheering up with Danyale Patterson

June 14th, 2011 by admin received Comments Off

You know it. Snowboarding is getting too serious. Last season You spent half of your free time counting all the spins needed for a 1440 triple cork. Then You realized it’s almost July and You have a) to pack your stuffs and head to a summer camp (if you’re lucky) b) to pack your stuffs and head to NZ (if you’re the luckiest) c) to pack your stuffs and head to the garage ’til next season (if you’re not so lucky in the end).

Well, we’re here to remember a solid point: SNOWBOARDING IS FUN. No matter where, how, and why you’ll spend your summer, it’s just about keeping up the hype and spin it for next round. We really got some people down for the cause in our friends or well also “web-friends” and this time we’re so PROUD to share the view of a girl – she comes from the West Coast, she’s a damn fine rails slayer and plus she’s so much style, you simply can’t wonder about. Slap an hi-5! Danyale Patterson!!

Hi Danyale! Welcome on Candiesmagazine.com! introduce yourself: years of riding, age and hometown!
Hi, my name is Danyale Patterson. I’m 20 years young and have been riding for at least 7 days. My Hometown is in every boys dreams.

Sponsors and hook-ups:
Sponsors = gnu
hookups = mike jones

Do you still remember what brought you to snowboarding for the first time? Was it a first-sight love or did you have to get some feeling in it?
My dad forced me into it. I think he wished his only child was a boy, haha seriously. I hated it at first. He tried to teach me in the backcountry and my nose just sunk in every freaking time I stood up. But then he took me to a resort and I figured it out right away, and realized how fun snowboarding could be.

We saw you riding in some of the sickest spots on Earth: from the massive mountains in Ak to the most famous superparks in the States; but what’s definitively your favorite one?
The best park for getting air time off friendly jumps is at North Star. But the best backcountry riding is in AK with my dad. I’m a girl, I can’t pick a favorite.

How’d be your perfect day on a board if you could picture it like a painting?
Perfect boarding day = Starts off with me doing a contest like the Olympics but bigger. I win the contest and a million dollars. But the contest ends before noon so I snowboard the rest of the day with my friends and get to spend a ton of money on the expensive food in the lodge that I always wanted but could never afford before.

Talkin of paint and brushes…you’re kind of a video nerd, we just love your editing…it’s so different from the masses! How did you get into this kind of stuff? Is it just a hobby or you’re working also on the videos of the crew?
Thank you! I love editing! More than snowboarding actually, but I’m just not as experienced with it. It’s just a hobby right now, but i hope to do something more with it soon.

Your part in bHappy Film, “Happy Thoughts” was sick! (see the video review here). Much love:). Are you workin on any new video for next year?
Yes! I’ve been working on a video part for the new bHappy film, “Happy Days” and a part for the new Peepshow movie, “Winter Wars”.

Winter season reached its end. A short chill and then it’s about summer parks. What are your plans for the upcoming summer?
Every summer I spend most of my time skateboarding and hanging out with my parents since I don’t see them at all in the winter, but this summer I am going to live in Hood.

I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle snowboarding in hood all summer but I’m going to give it a try.

Your best – and worst – moment of last year?
Winning 5 grand last september at a rail jam was pretty fun.

Getting hit by a kook at Boreal sucked. His snowboard edge ran over my shin and gave me 15 stitches.

A lot of girls are going so freakin big now. Is there any of them that you particularly like or maybe lookin at as a source of inspiration?
Hmm, Yeah I like almost all girl riders. But my inspiration comes from random places, almost never from other snowboarders.

And..do you ever feel intimidatied riding with guys, maybe killing the spot first try?
No I don’t feel intimidated by guys. It’s actually easier filming with guys. Everything gets built faster and they guinea pig the features and make it look easy. Filming with girls takes for ever.

Relax…your best tune, books and film of the moment.
Fight club is my favorite book. My favorite movies are Pumpkin, Ghost Dog, and Me You and Everyone We Know.

What do you do besides shredding? Free time, and any other project or plans if any!
Lately I’ve been trying to teach my cat to eat his food with a fork. He’s so cute =)

Danyale, we’re at the end! It was a pleasure to talk with you! Feel free to end as you want!
Thank you for the recognition! Hi Mom and Dad, I love you! L8er!

Thank You Dany! Keep shredding on!!
