We’re glad to present today on Candiesmagazine one of the founders of the Rot66 bmx Crew, a great name in the Genovese scene and not only, he rocks with heavy tricks and a friendly attitude! Here comes Andrea Castagnaro!!
1.Hi Andrea! Thanks for this nice itw! Drop in: how old are you, where do you come from and how long have you been riding your bmx?
Hello guyz, and thanks you! I’m 27, I was born in Genoa at 10:30 am on January 16th 1984, I live in Certosa, one of Genoa districts. Actually, I could say that I live in Bolzaneto, where I have a big garden, my great passion.
I’ve been riding for ten years, ten years during which I rode all kind of bikes. Now I ride exclusively bmxs, but in the past I was a freerider and a trial biker too.
2.Sponsors and hook-ups
At present I ride for DCSHOES while at the beginning I was sponsored by DMRBIKES and FREERIDE which helped and supported me when I was riding mtb and trial bikes. I want to thank FRONTOCEAN for all the support it gives to the rot66bmx crew.
3.When did you realize for the very first time that bikes were something more than just a means of transport?
Like all the kids I used to stroll around with my bike, but I realized that I really loved it when all my friends begain to ride motorcycles, while instead I joined an mtb club and I began to take part in the first contests.
4.Do you have any favourite spots?
Of course! Like all the riders! my town is full of spots, but the most important thing is to be in good company. The best is when I ride with my crew.
I love riding both park and street, but I prefer the street because I love searching new spots adapting my style. I often ride the bowl of Sestri Ponente, near “castorama”, and many other spots.
5.You have the possibility to built your own park. What would you put in it?
A line full of stylish transitions with a spine ramp.
6.What’s your security trick? And the heaviest one? What are you trying to land at the moment?
I love clean tricks, I land with security the greatest part of my tricks. Sometimes the whip makes me mad. I haven’t a heaviest trick, it depends on the spot.. if you do it in a huge place, even a footjam can be heavy. These days I’m trying nose 180.
7.Genova – hate it or love it. Whose side are you? What do you think of the local scene and who’s riding better in your opinion?
We’re pushing it, the level in Italy is high, and in Genoa we’re really good. Now we have also “Kid” Simone Barraco, who joined the crew again. I love my town, it’s not its fault if it’s administered in a bad way.
8.Rotsixisx bmx crew – go big! Present it to the outsiders!
Hehe…the crew was created by us, the old ones, (we sowed and now we reap), and by the enthusiasm of the new talents. It’s so good riding with a crew famous all over Italy, having news to tell, taking part all together to contests…It’s also a good way to make our sponsors happy.
9.How do you pump yourself before a riding session?
1-receive a message from someone who’s got the monkey.
2-watch a video – if I have enough time
3-listen to the ipod – if there’s some song that pumps me
10.Triple double! Favourite song, book & film!
Song: often the soundtrack of the new rot video.
book: I read weapons manuals and books about architecture. I don’t like novels, except for some rare case.
Film: I don’t have any favourite film, but I hate the 3D shit, if they ever do a 3D Al Pacino film I think I’ll kill myself with my glock, anyway I like Leon, Lord of war, American History-x, Carlito’s way.
11.Since you’re both from Genoa, what do you think about Brumotti and his superstar career?
I know his career, I rode with him several times when I was a trial biker. What could I say? In my opinion the most important things in life are health, money and fun. He’s got all those things!
12.The coolest event of this first 2011?
Tomorrow(March 5th), Carnival jam Lambro park Milan yo.
13.What do you do when you’re not riding?
I’m really busy, I’m about to graduate in architecture, on Friday nights I’m a barman, and I’m instructor at the shooting range of Genova Quezzi. Come and visit me to shoot or to drink some shots!
14.Yep! The end! Last lines are yours!
I always try to be sincere in my interviews. This is me, I like what I’m doing and if you like what you do you’re ok, fuck all the prejudices, goodbye to everyone and ride hard!
Thanks Andrea for this nice interview!! See you around!!!
