* Kelly Slater, ten times ASP World Champion, the Floridian-born “citizen of the world” , has joined the ranks of sporting gods Muhammad Ali, Joe Namath, Michael Jordan, Björn Borg, Julias “Dr. J” Erving, Tom Brady, and so on, being among others in GQ Magazine’s “25 Coolest Athletes Ever”.
And if Kelly’s coolness has never been questioned, this recognition by a such prestigious company is a massive achievement. Congrats Kelly!

*Quiksilver and the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) announced the Quiksilver Pro New York, that will be the 6th stop on the 2011 ASP World Tour and the first-ever ASP World Tour stop on the East Coast of the United States. It’ll take place at Long Island’s Long Beach from September 4-15. The event will offer a $1 million dollar prize purse to competitors, an amount unprecedented in professional surfing. Long and accurate studies have been made on the region, and the result is that September 4-15 is one of the most consistent time periods for sizable surf in the area.
