Vans Royal Challenge
11 – 12 September 2010
Turin under siege last week end with some sick freestyle event going live straight in the town center.
Aside from the Bmx event that you should have checked here,
another main event was the Vans Royal Challenge 2010 that took place in Piazza S.Carlo, one of the historical place of Turin, where during Italian’s Kingdom, soldiers used to parade for the Royal families.
The contest format was the usual for Vans vert contest: qualification on Saturday, then on Sunday final heats.
On the awesome mini settled up from the guys of Ignoramps, some of the best upcoming European skaters unleashed their best tricks and airs to have a chance to gain the HUGE prize money – 8’000 €!!
Qualifications has been really thought, and only 12 riders qualified for 2nd day: Stephan Bussac, Simone Verona, Ivan Federico, Julien Benoliel, Igor Fardin, Marcos Gabriel, Jed Cullen, Alex Giraud, Micky Iglesias, Jake Collins, Joshua Young, Greg Nowik.
Everybody was killing it. Ivan, Simone, Alex, everyone was going so huge that was almost impossible to tell who’s gonna get the final. Progression is getting sick, and huge airs and switch combo were a staples for the contest level.
Greg Nowik was just super sick: highest airs, double flips, his skating was so powerful you could even feel the ramp shakin while we was pushing it, deserving first place.
Final result:
- Greg Nowik
- Joshua Young
- Jake Collins
Best Trick – Gap Extension
Alex Giraud – bs kickflip lipslide over channel
